THE comments by John Graham (Letters, January 29) appear to have been made without much thought.

Taxi fares are set by the council and private hire decide their own. It costs money to change meters – between £15 and £20 – and it must cost buses to change their fares.

Not one of these three put up their fares when fuel prices go up.

Not many years ago, fuel prices went up four times in a few months. All the above never put fares up.

As for supermarkets, I cannot comment, but when shopping in them there are bargains to be had as they all compete against each other.
