IT IS excellent news that city centre businesses have voted in favour of a Business Improvement District (The Press, November 28).
It is an innovative way for traders large and not so large to make collective decisions about where best to spend money on the enhancement and improvement of the area of the city that they know best.
There is plenty in it for residents as well, as one of the points of creating a BID is that money allocated for planting, improvements, antisocial behaviour strategies and the like can be more easily targeted towards where help is most needed and/or appropriate, to the benefit of all.
It has taken a lot of effort by many people to get to where we are, but I know we all look forward to seeing this fresh approach to city centre management now being put into practice.
