EX-COUNCILLOR Tracey Simpson-Laing just doesn’t get it (Letters, November 23).

The affordable policies imposed on private housebuilders over the last 18 years have failed. They have not delivered the homes that are needed; either for private sale or for subsidised social renting.

House building numbers have crashed as a direct result of excessive regulations and burdens on the private sector. There needs to be a return to social housing directly by government.

Either the purchase of homes on a free market or the commissioning of new construction.

To fund this, I am happy to pay my fair share of tax where social housing costs fall on all taxpayers and not just those who happen to be in the construction industry.
