WE'VE all heard of Macmillan coffee mornings.

Now a new annual tradition is about to be born: the Great British Tea Party.

The coffee mornings raise money for the fight against cancer. The tea parties will raise funds for a no less vital cause - tackling the growing threat of antibiotic resistance.

That threat is one of the great challenges of our times, says York-based national charity Antibiotic Research UK, or ANTRUK. Unless we rise to it, modern medicine as we know it could become impossible.

The tea parties are ANTRUK's idea. It needs to raise £30 million over the next seven years to develop a range of combination antibiotic treatments effective against resistant superbugs.

The first Great British Tea Party will be on November 18.

Why not start making plans now...
