WITH reference to Emma Clayton’s article “Fall in number reading books” (The Press, September 22), during my infancy a book at bedtime read by one’s parents was the norm.

This in turn widened one’s horizons, which prompted many visits to York’s Central Library to gain knowledge by way of researching the myriad books available.

Reading is the bedrock of any education from cradle to the grave and contributes to mind over matter in keeping one’s brain power active.
