OVER £70,000 has been raised in the last 18 months to fund new playground equipment in Wigginton by the Churchfields Open Space Committee.

A big thank you goes to husband and wife Janet and Richard Denton of Mill Lane, Wigginton, who have worked tirelessly to spearhead fundraising activities.

Contributions have been forthcoming from funding applications for grants, from a collection box at the village store and from a produce stall outside Janet and Richard’s house.

Phase one of the playground development was completed in January 2015. This included a new jungle walk and tower system play area.

Phases two and three have now also been commissioned and work will start next month on a new dragon (rope) swing and forest climber. Phase four will provide a new roundabout which will be suitable for use by able bodied and disabled children.

The scheme is called “Play for all” and has lived up to its title with equipment for everyone to use.

Fundraising for phase five is also now under way. This will be called ‘Fitness for all’ and it will include lower impact fitness equipment suitable for use by able bodied, disabled and the elderly.

More funds are needed to complete phase five.
