I REFER to Stephen Lewis’ “Yesterday Once More” feature in The Press of July 6.

It is surprising there has been no response from the Theatre Royal considering that the gentleman in your picture giving directions to actor Lester Barrett (as George Hudson) was not “Mr M Stains”, but in fact Mr Geoffrey Staines, Director of Productions at the Theatre Royal.

As to “Sounding Brass”, although I did see the play, the only scene I recall was Hudson sitting in his room in “exile” on the continent reminiscing on his “glory days” when he was chairman of five railway companies, Lord Mayor of York and promoter of the York Union Bank. More than this I don’t remember – well it was 64 years ago!

Question is why has “Sounding Brass” never been revived? Had it been, there would have been no need for another play in the life of the “Railway King”.
