I DON’T find it intimidating in York on a Saturday (The Press, June 20).

I was in York with family on Saturday night for a curry in Micklegate and it’s fine (and I’m 60).

Lots of people out, some had a little too much to drink but it was not at all off-putting.

We were all young once and York should be pleased to get this number of visitors, most of whom are well behaved.

It’s a minority who go mad and this is not an issue of kicking them out, it’s a policing issue to keep them in control.

Race crowds are far worse behaved and do we want to ban them?

Come on... York is a city for all, not a privileged few and we should welcome everyone but encourage them to act responsibly.

REGARDING the fuss over stag and hen parties (The Press, June 20), on Saturday night I had the opportunity to see this at first hand.

For the first time in approximately five years, I went for a beer in the city centre.

At 8.30pm there was a brawl involving a gang of lads on Ouse Bridge, a drunken couple groping each other indecently in a bar and there were numerous rude, loud people. It was topped off with a bully punching two homeless lads.

Will I be going into town on a Saturday night again? I think I will give it another five years.
