YOU would think by the comments of Paul Hepworth in response to my letter of the May 22 that I was suggesting the M1 should be continued through York. Sledgehammer to a very small nut springs to mind.
I refer to the few hundred yards of the Heworth Green/Layerthorpe link road which is already two thirds built and serves to access office buildings and apartments.
Planning was approved some ten years ago for the complete road, but a developer pulled out for financial reasons, thus the funding was withdrawn.
Six or seven years ago, a junction built at Heworth Green was completed, including traffic lights, pedestrian safety railings, islands and lights.
A small push is needed to meet the James Street junction with Layerthorpe.
Traffic heading to Monks Cross Shopping Centre, new community stadium etc would flow easier and no longer cause problems in East Parade and Heworth Road.
