MUCH has been heard about climate change over in recent times, and it seems York now has its own microclimate. Suddenly the area is now a haven for vineyards producing copious amounts of grapes.

The problem is they are of the bitterest of sour grapes brought on by the recent election results. None more so than Mr Perry’s letter of May 22.

To wish ahead so far that the new coalition administration at City of York Council will result in failure for the Liberal Democrats is mean-spirited. I do not wish this upon them or the residents who would be the victims of failure.

Having said that, I do not defend the Lib Dems for their previous tenure in office, which was mediocre at best, and they had their Lendal Bridge moment with Clifton Green.

But now is time to move on. The city deserves to be served with competence and practical solutions to problems. I hope the council constantly reviews itself, questions all advice, spends frugally and admits when it goes wrong quickly and unequivocally.

The business of local government affects us practically and the banal carping between parties is not helpful.

If some one can see a better solution to a problem, let it be aired, not just used for short-term kudos.

Work together: it’s not easy but the results could surprise.
