FROM October of last year, the DVLA did not issue tax discs. No surprise perhaps, but it was still a surreal experience walking down the street to the Post Office to tax my car.
Nearly every parked vehicle displayed an out-of-date tax disc. How times have changed!
At least the act of receiving a disc softened the blow of that “just mugged” feeling as you handed over your cash and it seems unfair that once again the motorist gets taxed (a general fund) with nothing to show for it.
I later learned that even displaying an out-of-date tax disc could lead to a fine. Is this further evidence of a the Government’s “Big Brother” mentality: tax by stealth?
