AS The Press reports on May 21, the Home Secretary, Theresa May, stood before the Police Federation National Conference this week and told them to work with her.

Not reported in The Press, Theresa May went on to say that the Tories would be giving the police more powers to actually actively pursue prosecutions rather than wait for guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service.

In my view this would lead to more cases being overturned/thrown out by the courts and therefore more legal claims against the police for wrongful arrest and prosecution and possibly wrong imprisonment of people, that we saw a preponderance of in the 1970s, 80s and 1990s.

Mrs May told the police that more spending cuts would take place to their budgets without setting out how much or where.

She stated that she wanted police cars to become mobile police stations.

Would this mean that a police car would carry a duty solicitor?

Would police vehicles be fitted with facilities to make drinks and food for police officers and arrested people?

Or in the words of a sketch writer, would it mean that the boot of the police car would become a holding cell?

Get in touch with reality and get a grip on life Home Secretary along with the rest of the Tory party.
