THE news that plans to build 2112 houses in the Green Belt at Earswick have been dropped by developers is wonderful news for all of us who have been campaigning to oppose this for almost two years.

However, I was surprised to see that Cllr Helen Douglas is “delighted by this news”, according to a Conservative press release.

Given that during most of the time that I and the other members of the Earswick Action Group were fighting tooth and nail to stop this desecration of the village, Cllr Douglas was a member of the Labour group who were supporting the development through Labour’s local plan.

I have no problem with Cllr Paul Doughty’s delight, as he was fighting shoulder to shoulder with myself and the residents. However, Cllr Douglas can claim no reflected credit whatsoever as she had no part in saving the village and was actually part of the very group working against our aims.
