CITY of York Council’s laudable aim to get recycling above 50 per cent can easily be attained, even though the rate has stubbornly remained in the mid forties.
Councillors should go out with recycling collection vehicles and visit every household and business premises under council control.
Any site that is not recycling should have a pre-printed polite notice put through their doors, explaining the benefits and cost saving that will accrue when recycling rates get above half.
It will involve some early starts for councillors, but it will be well worth their while.
