ON bank holiday Monday I needed to go shopping. When I had finished, I went for a drive along Tang Hall Lane and round Osbaldwick, not because I needed to be there but just for the sheer joy of being able to drive along roads almost unencumbered by the nasty speed bumps.

Where they had been removed, the patch was immaculate and the join so smooth it couldn’t be felt. There were lots of other vehicles on the roads and all the drivers were sticking to the speed limit, no idiotic behaviour or tailgating.

That being the case, I hope those hard, oblong carbuncles will now be left off the roads so people aren’t wondering what damage is being caused to either their vehicles or their backs.

If, as we’re told, they want this bike ride to happen every year, would it be possible for them to vary the route each time so that all the roads in and around York get a repair job as good as the ones I’ve seen?

Just a thought, if the bike riders want to tour York and Yorkshire, they should be doing it under the same conditions as everyone else has to contend with, warts and all.
