WE are being constantly bombarded with statistics about the amount of food that is being given out by food banks.

Whilst not implying that the figures are being inflated, I do question how many of the recipients actually need it.

If someone is offering anything for free, then people will take it regardless of whether they want, need of even like it.

If the choice is between a supermarket which charges, however cheaply, or getting it for nothing, it’s no contest.

Years ago my dad used to say about a work-mate: “If they’re giving away owt for nowt he’s there with a barrow.”

I’m sure this principle still applies today.
