I DISAGREE strongly with Bryan Lawson’s letter of April 28 about Alex Reppold.

I am sure we all remember teachers at school who had been around for yonks and yet were totally useless, and conversely young teachers who were excellent.

In fact, I am not convinced age has much to do with whether someone is a good teacher or head teacher. In the Independent newspaper there was a letter from someone saying he too had become a head teacher at the age of 28 and that was 30 years ago, so it is not a new phenomenon.

In addition, Alex would not have got the job without excellent references, so his previous school must have thought he was more than capable of taking up this post.

Well done, Alex.
