READING letters on the Haxby station issue, I was reminded of a rail link in Scotland called the Shepherds Line from Inverness to the Kyle of Lochalsh.

At some of the stations you just put your hand up and the driver will pick you up and alert the guard if you wish to get off – it’s as simple as that.

As for Haxby, what about Strensall as an additional service? I reckon this issue on use of the station is getting a bit over the mark. All that is basically needed is a signalman or watchman. Putting obstacles in the way is not the way forward.

When I see people from Haxby district getting off the train at York after a day trip to Scarborough then having to catch a bus back to a destination they have just passed through, how ridiculous is that?
