WE HAVEN’T had a majority first-past-the-post prime minister since 2005.
Gordon Brown was anointed in 2007, losing in 2010 after having never been elected as PM.
David Cameron sheepishly entered Number 10 and in 2015 he or Ed Miliband will become PM, neither likely to have received an absolute majority of 326 seats according to current polling.
Our political system is bust, an undemocratic anachronism of “unelected” principle players.
The three presidents of Europe, the head of state and bishops in the Lords aren’t elected by a free vote of the electorate.
If the polls are correct, Scotland will see a rout of Labour MPs; even Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy and shadow minister Douglas Alexander could fall.
Other Scottish big beasts such as Lib Dem MPs Charles Kennedy and Tory stooge Danny Alexander are shaky. There’s a chance that Nick Clegg could lose Sheffield Hallam, perhaps a fitting reward as his party, already decimated in Europe, faces further humiliation and regional wipe out for cosying up to the Tories.
Maybe Wirral West can have its heart back if the Tory Esther McVey is unceremoniously dumped.
An interesting election for all the wrong reasons.
