I WELCOME new laws to force all dog owners to be responsible and carry “poo bags” to clean up after what comes naturally to our pets in public places (Letters April 16).

This will not resolve the issue of those many disgusting dog handlers who find it necessary to leave behind filled plastic bags on grass verges, under hedges or openly on Knavesmire and other public areas where children and pets play.

They are often ripped open by dogs, the council grass cutters, vermin and have even been witnessed being thrown around by children for “fun”.

Walking my two very inquisitive pups is a nightmare having to dodge these many discarded bags, left dog deposits and litter, throughout Acomb, Foxwood, Dringhouses and Knavesmire.

One of my pups had to attend the vet due to an infection acquired from such carelessness.

More needs to be done to enforce the current laws and to name, shame or fine these careless dog owners into cleaning up their act for the sake of our health and environment.
