WITH regards to the level crossing safety statistics in The Press of April 18, if the campaign to open Haxby station should unfortunately be successful, these presently worrying statistics will in effect look good.
A train every 15 minutes during peak hours has been suggested. If this were to happen, then Haxby Road crossing will be closed to road and pedestrian use more than it is open.
The solution for the latter, 99 per cent of whom are school children, would be a foot bridge. Road traffic? Well, use your imagination!
Bearing in mind the house-building proposed, the queues can only grow. Make sure the next car you buy has a stop/start engine facility, a bed and an alarm clock.
