THE Soap Box letter of April 17 states that the passenger service was withdrawn from Haxby station in 1939.
An interesting fact is that passengers were served by a Railbus from 1926 until increasing bus competition ‘killed off’ the service and the vehicle moved to Hull, to be withdrawn in 1934, road transport apparently being more popular, rather than cars being the reason.
A Railbus could seat 30 passengers and preceded the introduction of diesel multiple units, a popular mode of rail travel today.
