If the Conservatives end up being the largest party after the election, although they would never admit it, they should give a huge thank you to Ukip.

The Tories’ drift to the centre ground, or even a slight tilt to the left under David Cameron, was leading them to certain defeat.

Seeing the popularity of Ukip, who have many policies that are straight out of traditional Conservatism, they have realised they were losing too many of their natural supporters, so they have partially reverted to their normal core values.

Have they left it too late?
