OBVIOUSLY, Keith Woodland (Public roads should share cycle races, Letters, April 13) doesn’t look at the route map for the forthcoming Tour de Yorkshire cycle event.

The route for this will come down Bishopthorpe Road, as do most other events including cycling and fundraising events, not to mention several times a year we have the race traffic.

I must admit that I am not too happy that our street will be shut off for up to eight hours. It is a shame that we have to feel imprisoned in our own street, it seems to be happening on a much too frequent occurrence. Why not keep it to the country roads and inconvenience a lot less people?
