I FAIL to understand the point John Moore is trying to make about tethered horses in Osbaldwick, Murton, Kexby and Dunnington (Letters, March 26).

We have had consistent problems arising from horses being poorly tethered all along the grass verges of our lanes and roads. A number of accidents have arisen out of this practice, resulting in the death of animals, injury to drivers and car damage.

Local residents don’t care who owns the horses. Tradition does not come into the issue. If people want to own horses, then they should take responsibility for them and and not endanger the lives of others.

Cllr Mark Warters is only doing what we elected him to do, namely, looking after our best interests, as he always does.

Laurie Pye, Osbaldwick, York.
