VIGILANT readers of the letters page may recall that AP Cox helpfully named and claimed that Holgate’s Labour councillors, once unmasked, would gallop to my aid like the sheriff’s posse in a vintage U certificate movie (Letters, December 8). Alas! I waited in vain.
Imagine how my spirits revived when I read Liz Edge’s recent reassurance that “we have a growing group of intelligent, experienced, local independent, local councillor candidates who are prepared to serve residents, and not political parties” (Letters, February 16).
Here was my second chance!
I resolved to email to all six independent councillors and a postulant. After 30 days the reply times were as follows:
Candidate 12 hrs.
Councillor A 12 hrs.
Councillor B pending.
Councillor C pending.
Councillor D pending.
Councillor E pending.
Councillor F pending.
Admittedly, I was criticising senior officers, an indiscretion acutely embarrassing to most councillors. I suppose the lesson is: know your councillor candidates (even if they claim independence) before you cast your vote.
