AS someone who has campaigned passionately for the trees to be retained at the Terry’s site, I read the article published on March 16 with much interest.

Retaining the trees is not only important on environmental grounds, but is critical to maintaining the existing aesthetic to maintaining the existing aesthetic and community character of this York.

The trees will help to retain the environmental character of Bishopthorpe Road and help shield the continuous row of seven, four and five-storey blocks of flats, which have been approved.

It is also interesting to read that the developer is removing trees but retaining over 70 per cent of the existing trees.

This has been the developer’s tactic on several occasions when felling another tranch of trees and is nothing more than death by a thousand cuts.

After several assurances that no more trees will be felled, I would like to think that the council planning enforcement department will finally enforce retention of all existing trees.
