I WOULD like to thank all those who attended the recent public meeting on the future of Yearsley Pool at the 68 Centre.

Members of the scrutiny review heard from a number of pool users and residents who were angry with Labour’s decision last year to cut the funding for Yearsley from 2016/17.

Concerns were also raised about the impact of the proposed contract between City of York Council and GLL (Greenwich Leisure Limited).

This will finalise the terms under which GLL take on the management of Yearsley (as well as Energise and the new Community Stadium facilities), but its contents are shrouded in secrecy.

Residents want answers and most of all they want the long-term future of their pool to be secured.

This was the overriding message which came from Monday’s meeting.

The cross-party review will continue to work to try to achieve this and residents are welcomed to attend our next meeting which will take place at West Offices today at 5pm.

Cllr Keith Aspden Chair of the Yearsley Pool ad-hoc scrutiny committee, Heath Moor Drive, Fulford, York.
