WHAT a difference in open play there was in the final round of matches in the Six Nations rugby union, where teams knew they had to score many points in order to win the title.

Instead of the usual boring penalty kicking contests, we were entertained with displays of handling rugby. It was because the players had ambition to score points, rather than to win the games at any price regardless of any entertainment value.

It almost felt like I was watching rugby league, where every game is always good value for rugby supporters who believe it is a handling game.
