I READ with increasing enthusiasm your centre-spread article of February 27 on the new movement devoted to the progression of this great county, in the form of Yorkshire First.

Surely with a population larger than Scotland we need to have much better representation and self-governance than at present.

None of the existing political parties is really interested in advancing this idea. I’m sure all the York Central constituency candidates will be happy to be based in London, taking orders from their party whips, claiming the expenses easily handed out to them and popping back to York on the odd occasion.

This great county and York in particular requires more than that, especially in light of the blatant political bribery by the Chancellor to help Manchester (guess what, his constituency is just south of that city) to become the “Northern Hub” at the expense of the White Rose county.

One question remains. Why, when the Yorkshire First manifesto is launched in Parliament Square, York, is there no candidate for May 2015 election for the York Central constituency?

The population of York and the county need to get on board this movement to ensure we do not get left behind or forgotten.
