ON MARCH 9, the people of Haxby will be able to meet the police commissioner by private appointments. Perhaps I may be bold and ask the people of Haxby to make the meeting public and open.
Having attended meetings at Selby, York and Northallerton, I put forward the same question: that we have lost 150 constables since January 2013 but gained 180 senior police officers.
This year 2015-16 we will pay another £71 million for police officers only, but that will be £24 million too much for non-existent police officers.
This is explained as, at the end of 2006 we had 1,717 police officers costing some £57m. 2007 began the reducing of police numbers to 1,392 costing about £47-50m. In January I stated at Northallerton, answers-questions should be in public not private.
