HAVING written to your column before, regarding the old Reynard’s Garage, I would like to support Cllr Dave Taylor and his views on the building’s future.

I am co-ordinator of the York Branch of the Light Aircraft Association, a nationwide group of enthusiastic pilots and vintage aircraft restorers.

I would like anyone who feels that this historic building should be preserved and used as the Airspeed Museum in honour of the aviator pioneers who founded this enterprise, to contact me on 07973 765552.

The museum should be set up as an extra tourist attraction for the many air-minded visitors (and residents) in York, with perhaps a replica of an airspeed aeroplane in situ.

I know that the Air Museum at Elvington are in support of this proposal by their previous letters. I would like as many like-minded people to contact me, so that we may get together and work out a suitable solution to this exciting new opportunity.

The historical value of such a project is not in doubt, with Barnes-Wallis, Neville Shute and Amy Johnson involved in the fledgling aircraft industry of its day.

I believe York has about enough hotels, and office accommodation to spare this site for future generations to see part of the local history. Fly for Fun.

Dave Allan, Bouthwaite Drive, York.
