I, LIKE many others, honour and salute the memory of those heroic men from the British/Commonwealth and allied airforces, who bombed Germany and Japan.

This gave us the freedom to express our opinions (however jaundiced) in a free press. Perhaps R Westmoreland chooses not to remember the lanes and byways of Europe, bestrewed with the corpses of thousands of refugees, fleeing from the might of the German military machine, mostly women and children strafed and bombed by the Luftwaffe. Does he think the Germans were producing pretty pots in the Dresden factories?

They were producing war goods – by slave labour – who were beaten and tortured and starved to death by “these innocent Germans”.

These innocent Germans rejoiced when Warsaw / Newcastle, Hull, Liverpool, Exeter, London, were alight from end to end - and accepted the murder of countless millions of Jews Poles Russians allied troops.
