I WOULD like to make clear one aspect of your otherwise excellent coverage of the Green Party’s draft Budget amendment (The Press, February 24) in that the reduction in the extra funding allocated to winter roads maintenance is only a relatively small amount – around £20,000 out of an additional £280,000 allocated.

The funding for our proposals to protect the Castlegate Youth Service, protect the council’s apprenticeships scheme, put funds back into children’s centres and reverse a further proposed cut to library services would come largely out of a prudent reduction in the contingency fund, along with the use of the remaining money in James Alexander’s delivery and innovation fund.

The money to guarantee council funding for Yearsley Pool for up to five years while a business plan is developed and implemented is earmarked in our amendment to come out of the new homes bonus, additional council funding now secured for the five years following the current budget year.
