WITH reference to recent letters and articles regarding the length of the summer school holidays, one consideration that I have not noticed being mentioned, is the time needed for the annual maintenance of the buildings.
Even with contractors lined up to start work as soon as the school holidays arrive, sometimes six weeks is not enough to replace large boiler plant/leaking pipework, electrical rewiring, moving walls, asbestos removal, redecoration and re-roofing.
