THE notion that peace is within the grasp of the Palestinians (Ending conflict, February 3) shows just how successful is the BBC's propaganda campaign on behalf of the state of Israel and their paymasters at the White House. Israel has breached more than 50 UN resolutions. Were it not for the complicity of the US, another 50 resolutions would have condemned the brutality of the most sectarian state on Earth.

At the most extreme end of the equation, Israeli Zionists and their Christian counterparts in the US seek to reclaim for Israel the whole of the "Land of David and Solomon"; this would eliminate all of Palestine except Gaza and would swallow the whole of Syria.

At the more reasonable end are those who promote the idea of "Land for Peace". As the whole world knows, Israel is currently building an apartheid wall on Palestinian land, a wall that annexes thousands of square miles of the West Bank to secure the settlements of hundreds of thousands of foreigners to the region who happen to belong to the Jewish faith. Further, East Jerusalem has been annexed and is now home to nearly 200,000 foreigners of the Jewish faith. Just how are the Palestinians supposed to negotiate? Give up their land even faster than Israel can grab it? Abandon their Muslim and Christian religions to embrace Judaism?

Peace, as always, is in the hands of the oppressor.
