ALAN Smith, chair of Fulford parish council, concedes defeat in the battle to stop the Germany Beck development (Letters, February 10).

While it is sad to contemplate how Fulford will be destroyed by this vast housing development, I wish to congratulate Fulford parish council for frustrating the developers and City of York Council for all these years.

The parish council’s actions bought residents a few more years of peace and quiet and when the wagons roll and the diggers plough through everything, I am sure those residents will appreciate the quiet years even more.

Rest assured when the developers start, as in Derwenthorpe, Hungate, the Burnholme Club and so on.

Fulford will be faced with the same inconsiderate shambles that major building sites are allowed to become in York due to the lack of will and resource by the council to enforce planning conditions on developers.

Cllr Mark Warters, Independent, Osbaldwick ward.
