WITH regards to the on-going works on the replacement of Scarborough Bridge, and the closure of Marygate car park, the car park has only had limited spaces since December, as the contractors have taken over nearly half to prepare for the bridge works.
This has resulted in cars queuing down Marygate waiting to access the car park, as the barrier will only lift if there are spaces.
Marygate is narrow with high kerbs and parked cars. It’s a nightmare at the best of times. Now drivers are turning round to avoid the queues. This in turn causes more congestion and the queue trying to get into Bootham is a nightmare.
The council doesn’t appear to have done anything to advise motorists of the limited parking. The electronic signs advising the number of spaces don’t appear to be working. I wrote to the council on two occasions before Christmas to bring this to their attention. To date I have yet to receive a reply.
