I WOULD like to thank the many people in York who supported the successful campaign for the Green Party to be included in the leaders’ debates for the General Election.

Green Party support nationally and in York has been growing at a tremendous rate over recent months, as people realise that the Greens are the positive alternative to the ‘business as usual’ of the main parties.

In York membership has trebled (nationally we are the third party in terms of membership) and we are delighted that new members from all walks of life are keen to help with our campaigns for a fairer and more sustainable society.

As well as General Election perspective parliamentary candidates for York Central – Jonathan Tyler, and York Outer – Ginnie Shaw – we have a full slate of 47candidates for the council elections on May 7.

With two councillors already in Fishergate ward, well known for their consistent hard work for local residents, and the likelihood of a hung council, more Green councillors will really make a difference.

We will especially be looking for gains in wards where we were second in 2011 such as Guildhall and Micklegate.
