I LEFT Joseph Rowntree School in June last year. I was there the year Richard Crane took over the school. I have seen the recent articles and comments regarding the uniform crackdown Mr Crane is enforcing.

I felt strongly that I should write to set the record straight. Mr Crane has improved Joseph Rowntree School since the day he started; and he is only following rules put in place by previous head teachers.

I struggled a lot with my GCSEs and would not have got through without Mr Crane. With the help I received, I passed all my exams and am now studying at York College.

My attendance prior to Mr Crane’s arrival at Joseph Rowntree School fell as low as 70 per cent and after Mr Crane’s crackdown on late pupils (The Press, October, 2013), my attendance grew to around 96 per cent.

So if this is the result of Mr Crane’s rules, surely parents should be supportive and get behind the decisions he makes, just like my mum did.

I feel Mr Crane is being portrayed in the wrong way.
