WE are horrified at the idea of the fast food restaurant (McDonalds) being granted 24-hour opening at the old Wills and Ellis site (a new application has just been submitted).

The idea of a fast-food restaurant lowers the tone of the area and de-values our houses.

We and the neighbours did not want this in the first place and objected strongly.

Planning was granted and then further plans for a two-storey building with more parking places granted.

This is a residential area. Is there no consideration for the neighbours?

I do not know what the council is doing to York.

It should be discouraging all new fast-food outlets in view of the Government being concerned with so much unhealthy eating, obesity and hospitals at bursting point.

I would also like to add that there have been three large signage boards on the A59 and A1237 for well over six months. This reflects badly on the council, permitting this when the site is bare but for a mountain of rubble.
