I HAD to read the article in The Press of January 17, on the call for clarity over the EU, more than once to convince myself that this is what I voted for in 1973, to join a common market to bring enormous business benefits through trade agreements and access to lucrative overseas markets.

Since 1973, we have seen the EU grow into an expensive, power-mad organisation which dictates what vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, shaver and lawn mower I can buy; and controls who we allow in or out of the UK, whether they be lawful abiding citizens or not.

Other countries in Europe chose not to join the EU and they seem to manage nicely, making their own laws and controlling their own borders.

One of the EU rules is that people seeking asylum should apply in the first EU country they land in. This is not the case in Italy, where boatloads of refugees land and are pointed towards France and ultimately the UK.

Sir Hugh Bayley says “a campaign for business run by business, would be much more effective than one run by Clegg and Miliband”.

I presume that he meant to say Clegg and Cameron, or is he already predicting the outcome of the General Election?

At least David Cameron has said he will try to do something about this. This could turn out to be another broken promise. We will have to wait and see.
