JULIE Gunnell has announced her nomination as a Labour candidate for the general election and she is uniquely placed to become the next MP for the City of York.

I am pleased she has put herself forward. She is passionately committed to representing York people and she has worked tirelessly for the city for many years. Having lived here all her life, she has extensive knowledge of York, its needs and the aspirations of people.

But, it’s her experience and work as a local councillor and cabinet member which gives her the advantage over others.

She has a great track record of work and effort by tackling difficult issues, understanding complex situations and working with a wide range of organisations and individuals.

Julie ticks far more boxes than any other declared Labour candidate ever can.

She is well known, is the only person that can attract a person vote, is well respected and would be a worthy successor to Hugh Bayley.
