EARLIER this week I was chosen to be the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for York Central. It was a big decision to stand, but I want to put something back into a city I care deeply about, having lived here for nearly 30 years.

With Hugh Bayley standing down, this election will prove to be one of the most open contests in York Central for over 20 years.

Labour may assume that this is a safe seat but I believe, given recent local events, that York voters will look at the best person for the job rather than the colour of the rosette.

I’ve a history of local activism and campaigning within the community to preserve local amenities and council services for local people and organisations, so I know that everyday quality of life and the dignity of the individual is paramount.

With more than 20 years of real world business experience, I’m no career politician. I would put my skills to good use in helping York businesses to prosper and making sure big local projects are fully scrutinised and cost justifiable.

My motto is “Putting York First” – with Westminster’s self-interests far in the distant horizon.

Nick Love, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate, York Central constituency.
