THANKS to The Press for the coverage of Judi Dench’s 80th birthday. It has brought out comments on her appearances in the Mystery Plays – one of my favourite subjects.

As any reader can find out by consulting the excellent website hosted by the National Centre for Early Music (Walmgate) about the Mystery Plays, Judi was an angel in 1951, the Angel at the Tomb (Resurrection scene) in 1954 and Virgin Mary in 1957. The yorkmysteryplays.org archive has photographs of her in 1954 and 1957.

The website says that more photographs and Mystery Play souvenirs are always sought: info@yorkmysteryplays.org or 01904 632220. Now, I am just going to buy my copy of the new DVD of the 2014 wagon plays, from the York Guilds….
