THE Labour Party’s National Executive Committee is wrong to enforce an all-women selection.
True, we could do with a lot more women MPs, but they should get there on merit and on a level playing field. Excluding men from the selection is surely prejudicial and I am surprised their precious European Court of Human Rights would allow such a thing.
Brenda Jackson (member of York UKIP), Haxby, York.
Insulting decision I WAS appalled to read in last Friday’s Press that the new Labour Party candidate for York Central will be selected from an all-women shortlist.
As a woman I find grossly insulting the implication that a capable woman cannot compete on level terms with a man for the job. This makes the policies of equal opportunity and opposition to discrimination hypocritical.
Please let there be a shortlist of the most suitable candidates irrespective of gender.
Mrs Lalage Robson, Black Dyke Lane, Upper Poppleton, York
