THE new Shambles Market is living up to its name after six months or so of very little progress.
Having watched the inactivity on the site over the summer period, it was only in recent weeks that the construction pace stepped up a little – perhaps because of the impending need to erect the St Nicholas “sheds” in Parliament Street.
The revamped market opened on November 10 and on a very wet Friday just days later we saw water cascading out of the downpipes on the unfinished new stalls and soaking much of the produce on the vegetable stall.
Come on, City of York Council, you have had all of the summer period to complete this project yet we are still in a situation where the area is an unfinished mess.
What a pity that the opportunity to do something constructive has been lost due to more mismanagement.
