I DID enjoy reading the letter in The Press (November 15) regarding the letter from Sue Keane, regarding the memories of Groves Chapel, which is to be sold.

My daughters, Joanne and Louise, where christened there and are now in their fifties. We loved going to the musical events, learning skills. That is all gone now; happy memories.

I went to Melbourne Street chapel. During the war the soldiers used it for dancing and socials. They all used to come and play darts, table tennis, play music.

I used to stand on a box behind the tearoom aged nine, while my sister, Sheila, served the tea. She was very pretty and 19 years old, meeting different folks based at Imphal Barracks on Fulford Road. She got to meet a lot of French and Australian. They all used to date the local girls. As a family we all still remember all those lads who went to war. Melbourne Chapel was pulled down.

So sad they are all closing down to be used for the supermarkets.
