THE long-awaited withdrawal of British and American forces from Afghanistan has been completed, except for a few hundred troops who will assist in ongoing the training of the Afghan Forces of police and army, who have taken over the task of holding back the Taliban.

The Afghan forces of 300,000-plus is costly and the Afghanistan coffers are not good. This means that most of the financing of the Afghan forces is provided for mainly by Britain pledging £70 million and the USA pledging £811 million annually, as well as Australia and other NATO members pledging millions of pounds.

This will legacy will remain for many years to come . Meanwhile, despite ten years of attempts to curb the flourishing opium poppy trade, it produced an income of one billion pounds in 2013. And the question should be: For whom?
