AT THIS time of year, we are plunged into darkness at 5pm. There is an increase in road accidents and I can’t do jobs or play with the kids outside after work.

It’s time to end the preposterous practice of changing the clocks to Greenwich Meantime. Despite the popularity of keeping British Summer Time all year, attempts at legislation at Westminster have been filibustered by Scottish Nationalist MPs. England should keep BST and the Scots can go their own way and choose a gloomy time zone that suits them.

Mr R Allanson, Strensall, York.
